Welcome Twitter Friends

twitter logoThanks for stopping by. So you want to know your farmer better. What? You don’t have a farmer. Sure you do. Who grows the vegetables you eat? Raises your meat? Milks their cows every day to provide you with cream for your morning coffee?

We are very blessed to sell our meat and eggs at one of the coolest farmers markets in America every Sunday in Washington DC. Every time I cross the Key Bridge and see the Washington Monument out across the Potomac River, I get goose bumps. It’s very nostalgic. And it gives me pause to think of the farmers who 100 years ago crossed the same river in their horse drawn wagons making deliveries. (Ok, so maybe I’m a little sappy too.)

But there is a growing epidemic in this country. Fewer and fewer people have a strong connection between the farm and the fridge. In 1870, 70-80% of the population was employed in agriculture, today that number has dropped to less than 3%. And statistics show that most people are at least four generations removed from farming, having little or no memories of what its all about.

That’s why I created this blog. To remove the distance between the pasture and the plate. To reconnect visitors with our agrarian heritage. And because I love cooking with fresh local food.

Join us in strengthening the connection between farm and fridge. Subscribe to our blog and receive stories from our farm. Oh, and lots of great recipes too!
